Ong, Sacay lead St. Benilde to 1-2 finish

COLLEGE of Saint Benilde capped its dominance in the men’s division with another 1-2 finish in the NCAA taekwondo speed kicking competition yesterday.

Josemari Aiko Ong and Clark Jayson Sacay claimed the gold and silver medals in the heavyweight category with 6.917 and 6.650 points, respectively.

San Beda’s Glen Paul Salazar captured the bronze with 6.367 points.

At the conclusion the eight-day virtual tournament, the Blazers ruled the men’s side with five golds, three silvers and a bronze medals.

The Red Jins placed second with two golds, two silvers and five bronze medals.

Arellano University ended up in third spot with a 1-2-2 medal haul, while San Sebastian won its lone medal, a silver.

San Sebastian’s Ryan James Fajardo missed the podium with 6.058, followed by Letran’s Roi Vinson Belano (5.983), Arellano’s Ramcess Bautista (5.800), Letran’s Jan Camilo Bagaporo (5.708) and Arellano’s Al-Zalman Jamero (5.525).

The women’s division of the speed kicking competition will start today until July 5.
