WORLD Amateur Golf Championships (WAGC) slots will be up for grabs as local golfers compete in the OGAN Cup on Saturday, April 22, at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Cavite.

Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) president Oliver Gan said that 80 golfers – 40 adults and 40 from the JGFP players – are expected to compete in the tournament.

“We’re excited that we are partners again with WAGC, and it’s going to be a memorable day because the majority of our participants are parents of our golfers in JGFP. It’s going to be a fun day,” said Gan, a former golf consultant at the Games and Amusement Board (GAB).

There will be six divisions in the adult category, which will be based on handicaps, and these are Group A for 0-5 handicaps, B for 6-10, C for 11-15, D for 16-20, E for 21-25 and F for 26-30.

As for the JGFP players, the divisions are six-under boys and girls, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18.

The top five winners from Groups A to F will earn spots in the National Finals in Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Batangas this coming September.

The winners per division in that tournament will earn slots in the WAGC tournament this November in Phuket, Thailand.

Junior golfers from 16 and above can join the WAGC qualifiers of this tournament backed by Islandwide Distribution, JS Gaisano, Seascape, Sitio Elena, Unicapital Trade, Pike Braga Sports and Development Foundation Inc., Hanabishi, VC Securities Corporation, Perry Bucay, GolfX and Tribune Golf.
