Officer dies after buddy’s gun went off in N. Vizcaya
A ROOKIE police officer died after he was accidentally shot by a fellow cop in their barracks in Nueva Vizcaya.
The fatality was identified as Patrolman James Canceran, 32, a resident of Sta. Maria, Isabela.
The suspect was his buddy, Patrolman Joshua Cebo, 24, of Tumauini also in Isabela.
Canceran and Cebo were both members of the 2nd Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Mobile Force Company in Bgy. Sta. Maria, Dupax Del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya.
The victim and the suspect were in their barracks at the Dupax Del Sur Police Station when Canceran met his tragic death.
Cebo, who was then seated on his bed, was getting his issued cal. 9mm short firearm from his bag when he accidentally pulled the trigger, hitting Canceran, who was then preparing for duty.
Cebo and some fellow officers rushed Canceran to the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Hospital, where the victim was declared dead on arrival from a gunshot wound in the stomach.
