Nuclear weapons
PRESIDENT Marcos has reiterated the Philippine government’s stance against the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world.
Of course, President Marcos’ declaration drew praises and cheers from the Filipino people, notably the ordinary citizens across the country.
Marcos aired the “welcome news” last Tuesday during his meeting with Dr. Robert Floyd at Malacanang Palace.
Dr. Floyd is the executive secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CNTBT) Organization.
In a nuclear war, no one wins, according to Marcos.
The Philippines signed the treaty on September 24, 1996 and ratified it on February 23, 2001.
Actually, the Philippines, was the third Southeast Asian nation to ratify the treaty.
Under the treaty, the Philippines hosts three verification stations. These are located in Davao City, Paranaque City and Quezon City.
The treaty prohibits any nuclear test explosion anywhere in the world.
Like other well-meaning people across the globe, we share the view of many, including President Marcos, that a world free from nuclear threat is a safer for all.
