A NEW ORDER looms as National University seeks to complete one of the most dominant performances in UAAP women’s volleyball history tonight at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ramil de Jesus has won 11 titles in his 25 years of coaching La Salle to become one of the highly-successful programs in the league.

Mhicaela Belen, a top contender for the season MVP award, knows the championship pedigree the Lady Spikers have and the Lady Bulldogs open spiker hopes to build something for the school if they close out the series at 6:30 p.m.

“Siguro po dahil yung history nila sobrang like yung kay Coach Ramil po diba marami na po siyang championships,” said Belen, who was serenaded by “MVP” chants during NU’s 25-20, 25-12, 25-21 Game 1 win over La Salle.

“So sa amin po mas ganado po kami kapag kalaban sila, mas eager po kaming talunin sila,” she added.

A victory would end the Lady Bulldogs’ 65-year old championship drought. This could also be a potential start of NU’s dynastic rule as no one from this current roster built from the highly-regarded Nazareth high school girls program are graduating.

With the immense talent and skill level they have, the only thing that the Lady Bulldogs can be beaten right now are themselves.

NU is eyeing to become the second team after Ateneo in the 2014-15 season to record a perfect 16-0 campaign.

“Motivated siguro itong mga players everytime ganoon yung kalaban, mga big games. Siguro kaya binibigay nila lahat,” said first-year Lady Bulldogs coach Karl Dimaculangan.

No stranger to success, Dimaculangan, who as setter led University of Santo Tomas to a 17-0 sweep while copping the Finals MVP honors in the 2008-09 season, emphasized the need for NU to stay focused at the task at hand.

The Lady Bulldogs produced a masterclass in the opener as they dominated the Lady Spikers in attacks (43-23), blocks (11-3) and service (8-2) – with their 25 errors as their only dent in the straight-set romp.

“Finals na ito, so nire-remind ko lang ulit sila na hindi namin pwedeng ulitin yung ganoon kadaming error, lalo na kung championship na,” said Dimaculangan.

La Salle, which has yet to win a set against NU this season, needs to deliver a near-flawless performance if it wants to force a Game 3 and the opening set will set the tone of the match.

Prior to Game 2, a short awarding ceremony to fete the league’s best individual performers will be held at 5:30 p.m.
