NSC reorganization
AMID the evolving challenges here and abroad, President Marcos has reorganized and streamlined the membership of the powerful National Security Council (NSC).
In Executive Order (EO) No. 81 signed on December 30, 2024, Mr. Marcos excluded from the NSC the Vice President and former Presidents of the Philippines.
Headed by the Chief Executive, the NSC is principally responsible for coordinating and integrating government plans and policies related to national security.
Admittedly, one of the Marcos government’s major concerns is China’s claims to the mineral resources-rich West Philippine Sea (WPS).
It is public knowledge that the VP and her father former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte are known very close to Beijing authorities.
We share the view of many that the reorganization will ensure that NSC members uphold and protect national security and sovereignty.
National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano said the reorganizaion was meant to address current and emerging threats to national security.”
A former secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) and chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Ano is the NSC director-general.
Certainly, Marcos is on the right path in reorganizing and streamlining the NSC membership.
We are all for this.
