NPA reb killed in Kalinga clash

SECURITY forces on Saturday shot dead a suspected member of the New People’s Army (NPA) following a clash with a band of heavily-armed rebels in Pasil, Kalinga, Cordillera Police Regional Office director, Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said.

In a report to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Dionardo B. Carlos, the official said the body of the slain suspect identified as Julio Dumalyong, a resident of Sitio Liglig in Baangay Tanglag, Lubuagan municipality was recovered in Bgy. Bagtayan in Pasil around 9: 15 a.m. Saturday.

The man was identified as a member of the NPA Kilusan Larangang Gerilya Baggas, he added.

According to Lee, patrolling Army soldiers clashed with an estimated 15 NPA gunmen in the area for about 35-minutes resulting in the death of the suspect.

Lee added that recovered from the scene of the encounter were an M-16 automatic rifle with two magazines containing 25 live ammunition, one M-16 bandolier, a transistor radio and personal belongings.

No casualty was reported on the government side, the Cordillera police director said.

Lee said that members of the Pasil Municipal Police Station cordoned off the area prior to the arrival of a SOCO team from the local Crime Laboratory.

“Checkpoints and blockades have already been established along the possible withdrawal routes of the rebels. Our men are also checking hospitals and other clinics for any person who have sought treatment of gunshot wounds,” said Lee.
