Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 5) — No adverse side effects were noted during the first day of administration of the Sputnik V vaccine, according to the Department of Health.

“As of kahapon, kasi kahapon natin naumpisahan, wala pa naman naitalang mga side effect… Wala kaming naitalang serious side effect, kasi kung may serious side effect, nai-report agad ‘yan,” said Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje during the Laging Handa briefing on Wednesday.

[Translation: As of yesterday, because we only started yesterday, no side effects were recorded… We didn’t record any serious side effects, because if there were, they would have been immediately reported.]

The vaccines from Russia’s Gamaleya Institute arrived on May 1 after delays due to logistical issues.

The initial 15,000 doses were divided among the cities of Manila, Makati, Taguig, Parañaque, and Muntinlupa and would be administered to healthcare workers and people with comorbidities.

Cabotaje said the expected side effects are similar to those of other vaccines, not just the ones for COVID-19.

“Ang ine-expect natin na side effect, kagaya din nung mga nararamdaman sa iba-ibang bakuna di lang ng COVID, pati yung ibang klase ng bakuna, yung konting pamamaga sa site tapos may konting fever. Tapos yung masakit yung mga kasukasuan,” she said.” By CNN Philippines Staff
