No grumblings
THE 160,000-strong Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has assured the Filipino people that there are no grumblings in the military.
Doubtless. the assurance is a welcome development amid the ongoing feud between President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte.
We share the view of many that what’s needed now is the maintenance of peace and order if we are to speed up the nation’s development.
AFP Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Jimmy Larida made the assurance before the powerful Commission on Appointments.
Larida issued the assurance during the commission’s hearing on his promotion.
Of course, no less than AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said that the men and women in military uniform will remain professional and competent.
“Our job is to protect the Republic of the Philippines, protect its people, defend our territory and defend our sovereignty,” said Brawner.
With so many problems and challenges confronting the country and people, we cannot overemphasize the importance of setting aside our differences.
We are all for this.
