BRIGADIER General Anthony A. Aberin Jr. on Friday installed Colonel Alex G. Recinto as the new chief of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

A lawyer-member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1998, Recinto replaced Col. Reynaldo L. Lizardo, of PNP Academy Class 1998.

Recinto along with Col. Jesus Jesselito L. Castro are members of PMA Class 1998 who decided to leave the Armed Forces and join the PNP after they both became lawyers. Castro is now with the

PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Brig. Gen. Aberin led the turnover of office ceremony between Colonels Recinto and Lizardo at the Negros Oriental police headquarters in Camp Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Fernandez Jr. in Sibulan municipality.

As the new Negros Oriental police director, Col. Recinto has been ordered by Brig. Gen. Aberin to pursue with more vigor their campaign against partisan armed groups and loose firearms in the province which was shocked by the March 4 assassination of Governor Roel R. Degamo and eight others.

The multiple murder case has triggered a massive police operation against loose weapons in the province specifically targeting those owned by suspended Negros Oriental (3rd District)

Representative Arnolfo ‘Arnie Teves Jr. and his brother, former Gov. Pryde Henry Teves and their associates.

The crackdown against illegal guns in the province is being spearheaded by members of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group headed by Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. with the support of the PRO7, the NOPPO, the PNP Special Action Force and the Philippine Army.

Col. Recinto’s expertise as a policeman-lawyer will be of help too as the government pursues its investigation into a number of unsolved political assassinations in the province.

Degamo’s widow, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, earlier linked her husband’s political rival, Rep. Teves to some 30 killings in the province in the past. Teves remained out of the country as of press time.
