New illegal drugs program
THE government, with the help of various sectors of society, now employs a new but highly-effective strategy aimed at putting an end to the country’s illegal drugs problem.
Since July 2019, law enforcement agents have arrested 22,646 drug personalities and seized P9.7 billion worth of illegal drugs in 18,505 operations nationwide.
Note that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. and other newly-elected national and local government officials assumed office at 12 noon on June 30, 2019.
Aware of the worsening problem of drug addiction across the country, President Marcos vowed to pursue the previous administration’s total war against the “drug monster.”
But noting the outcry against the Duterte administration’s bloody war against the drug menace, the new government came out with its own “Buhay Ingatan, Droga Ayawan” Program.
Otherwise known as “BIDA Program,” it involves various sectors of Philippine society and focuses more on drug demand reduction and rehabilitation of drug dependents.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., on the other hand, called on the Filipino people to act now “at maging bida laban sa iligal na droga.”
Abalos, son of ex-Comelec Chair Benjamin Abalos, added: “Sa ating mga kamay nakasalalay ang isang magandang bukas para sa ating mga kabataan na malaya sa salot ng droga.”
We agree with Secretary Abalos that it’s high time for all sectors to make a stand and do their part through the “BIDA Program.”
Spearheading the “BIDA Program” are the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
We are all for this new anti-illegal drugs program.
