New Era humbles Holy Angel, PCU outplays CUP
NEW Era University outclassed Holy Angel University, 91-82 while Philippine Christian University defeated City University of Pasay, 77-66, in the NAASCU Season 22 basketball tournament at the Holy Angel University in Angeles, Pampanga.
Four players, led by “Best Player of the Game” awardee France Angeles and Johnver Lauzon, scored in double figures for the visiting Hunters, who took control of the game right in the opening quarter and never looked back.
Angeles finished with 13 points on 5-of-20 shooting, nine rebounds and in 23 minutes three assists while Lauzon added 13 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in 21 minutes.
The Hunters also got 12 points each from Jared Sevilla and James Manzano and 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks from Toritseju Adams.
Tristan Luise Tolentino chipped in nine points.
Noy Janny Capuno carried the fight for the Golden Guardians with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of play.
Marc Basillo added 15 points, Louise Andrei contributed 11 points and three assists and Ramonchito Rodriguez and Jerlan Manaloto added nine points each in the losing effort.
Meanwhile, “Best Player of the Game” winner Troy Manipolo came through with 20 points to lift the Dolphins past Green Eagles.
Manipolo went 8-of-25 shooting on top of eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals in 32 minutes of action for PCU coach Biboy Simon.
Dan Gelo Pascua added 10 points and six rebounds, Solomon Itam had nine points and 11 rebounds. and Llonel Failon and Hance Ivan Lleva had eight points each.
John Luigi De Leon and Jomar Yugto led the Green Eagles with 17 points each.
De Leon and Yugto also had four rebounds.
Kurt Meneses added 15 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.
Earlier in the day, Our Lady of Fatima humbled Enderun Colleges, 71-58, and University of Makati downed Manuel Luis Quezon University, 93-86.
