New anti-drug strategy

AWARE of the continued proliferation of dangerous drugs in the country, the government is going after the “big guns” involved in the illegal importation of habit-forming substances.

Dubbed “new strategy,” the nationwide campaign calls for the arrest of the “big guns” and the “big suppliers” of illegal drugs.

“For the longest time, we have been concentrating on the consumption side, arresting them on street levels,” said the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In a press statement on November 12, DILG Secretary Juanito Victor “Junvic” Remulla said this time, however, the authorities are going heavy on the supply side.

Remulla also bared that the trend in the seizure of small-time drug peddlers in the country prompted President Marcos to declare war against the big suppliers.

“Pataas nang pataas ang seizures on the ground pero puro maliliit – puro one kilogram, two kilograms,” he said.

Rermulla added: “The drug trade is more sophisticated now, they use more sophisticated methods and distribution, they use crypto currency to hide their proceeds.”

We, like other well-meaning Filipinos, share the view of the DILG top honcho that the illegal drug trade is different altogether now.

“Talagang ibang-iba na ang nangyayari ngayon sa Pilipinas kung ang pinag-uusapan ay ang “drug menace.”

That’s why we commend the administration of President Marcos for its decision to hit hard at the “big guns” in the illegal drug trade.

Panahon na para mabulok sa bilangguan ang mga ito.
