PRESIDENT Marcos has declared that the governmen is committed to transform the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) into a world-class force.

This, the government will do by pursuing the military’s modernization program, according to Marcos.

“We will…enhance your (soldiers) training programs, ensure that you are equipped to face challenges not just of today but also of the future,” said the Chief Executive.

President Marcos made the statement during the commissioning of 609 new second lieutenants and ensigns of the army, air force and navy.

The commissioning rites of the new military officers. graduates of officer candidates schools of the three services, were held last Friday at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

The three AFP services are the Philippine Army (PA), Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the Philippine Navy (PN).

Of the 609 new military officers, 361 came from the PA, 173 from the PAF and the rest from the PN, according to the AFP.

In his message to the newly-commissioned second lieutenants and ensigns, Marcos underscored the importance of working together.

Together, he said, “we will build an AFP that will stand as a beacon of strength, of alliance, resilience and technological excellence.”
