Negros Occ police score big in anti-crime drive
INTENSIFIED anti-criminality operations by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) last week led to the seizure of more than P2 million worth of shabu and 23 loose firearms as well as the arrest of 101 wanted lawbreakers, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
“We made those anti-crime accomplishments before the start of the election period and are confident we can surpass our targets as we conduct a more aggressive crackdown against criminality as we implement the gun ban and go after more loose firearms and potential private armed groups in the province,” said NOCPPO director Col. Rainerio M. De Chavez.
NOCPPO records showed that from January 6 to 12, the Provincial Police Office conducted 36 anti-narcotics operations, which led to the arrest of 48 drug targets who yielded nearly 312 grams of shabu valued at around P2.116 million.
The 48 are facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The period also saw the confiscation of 23 loose firearms and the arrest of nine persons for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013; and the arrest of 101 lawbreakers, eight of them tagged as Most Wanted Persons and the rest Other Wanted Persons.
NOCPPO operatives also arrested 11 illegal fishermen who yielded nearly P290,000 worth of illegally-caught fish and fishing paraphernalia and 14 others for illegal gambling during the period.
