Nearly P78-M illegal drugs seized in October
NEARLY P78 million worth of shabu and other prohibited substance were confiscated by agents of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group amid its stepped-up crackdown against illegal drugs last October, the head of the group reported to PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil on Wednesday.
Brigadier Gen. Eleazar P. Matta said the drugs valued at P77,921,760.00 were recovered as a result of 71 anti-drug operations they conducted from October 1-31 which also led in the arrest of 80 of their targets.
The official said that among the prohibited substance recovered during the period were 3,502.20 grams of shabu, 33,000 grams of the high-grade cannabis derivative called Kush, 33,040 grams of dried marijuana, 45ml of marijuana oil, 700 marijuana seedlings, and 2,800 fully grown marijuana plants.
Brig. Gen. Matta said that 44 of the 80 suspects were arrested in buy-bust operations and 7 during the service of search warrants for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002
Another 25 were persons wanted for violation of the anti-drug law while 4 were apprehended in interdiction operations.
“These accomplishments underscore the PNP DEG’s relentless efforts to dismantle the drug trade,” said the official as he commended his men for their unwavering dedication in the campaign against illegal drugs.
He also underscored their strict adherence to human rights and the rule of law as outlined by Gen. Marbil who has maintained that he wants a ‘war on drugs without killings.’
“We commend our brave men and women in the PNP-DEG who have dedicated themselves to this mission with integrity and diligence. As directed by our Chief, PNP, we continue to pursue a recalibrated approach in our fight against illegal drugs—ensuring respect for human rights and the preservation of life while holding violators accountable,” the official said.
