NEARLY P3 million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants and seedlings were uprooted and destroyed by the local police in a secret cannabis plantation site in Kibugan, Benguet, Cordillera Police Regional Office director, Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said on Saturday.

The illegal crops were found growing in the mountainous area of Bgy. Tacadang in Kibungan municipality which was reached by members of the Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Company following hours of walking.

Lee said his men uprooted the marijuana plants in six sites in the area before burning them.

The official said they are stepping-up their effort to locate and destroy all clandestine marijuana plantations in Cordillera region as ordered by Philippine National Police chief, General Dionardo B. Carlos.

Marijuana remains to be the most abused drug in the country next to shabu. Traditionally being grown in the cold mountains of Cordillera, marijuana fetches a price of up to P5,000 a kilo in the underground market.
