Nearly P193M MJ crops destroyed in Kalinga

COMBINED operatives of the Cordillera Police Regional Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday and Friday uprooted and destroyed an estimated P193 million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants and seedlings in Tinglayan, Kalinga, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said.

Citing a report from Cordillera police director Brigadier Gen. Ronald O. Lee, the official said that around 795,000 fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings as dried marijuana leaves were uprooted from a 7-hectare uninhabited site in Mount Chumanchil in Bgy. Loccong and in Sitio Ballay in Bgy. Tulgao in Tinglayan municipality.

Lee said members of the Kalinga Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit and Provincial Intelligence Unit, the Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company, Cordillera Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the PNP Special Action Force were involved in the operation.

Officers from the PDEA under Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva also joined the major marijuana eradication operation.

Lee said that also recovered at the site were some 53 kilogram of dried marijuana leaves and 14 bottles of cannabis oil. As of press time, the local police are still trying to establish the identities of the maintainers of the raided site.
