NCRPO, OCD enhance disaster response partnership

OFFICIALS of the National Capital Region Police Office and the Office of Civil Defense met recently to further strengthen their partnership in responding to future man-made and natural calamities and other disasters in Metro Manila.

NCRPO director, Major General Sidney S. Hernia and OCD-NCR regional director George F. Keyser, during their meeting, agreed to hold regular talks to fortify disaster preparedness and resilience across the metropolis which is no stranger to flash floods and big fires as well as other disasters.

The OCD, as the operational arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, leads the country in implementing innovative and strategic disaster risk reduction and civil defense initiatives.

During his talk with Keyser, Maj. Gen. Hernia highlighted that the NCRPO, as part of its mission to protect lives and properties in Metro Manila can tap into the OCD’s resources and expertise whenever necessary in order to enhance its capability to respond swiftly and effectively to every crisis situation.

Through their enhanced partnership, both agencies could come up with a unified, comprehensive approach to disaster management, address vulnerabilities and enhance resilience across Metro Manila’s communities., said the NCRPO chief.

Maj. Gen. Hernia said their collaboration with the OCD sets the stage for robust emergency response frameworks, focusing on proactive measures to mitigate risks and safeguard citizens.

He added that they all have one thing in mind: to forge a fortified path toward a disaster-resilient Metro Manila and ensure the long-term safety and welfare of millions of its residents.
