NCRPOWANTING to make Metro Manila’s streets ‘fully walkable round-the-clock,’ National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, Brigadier General Anthony Aberin has ordered the five districts to enforce all ordinances designed to keep peace and order in the metropolis.

“We are prioritizing order and discipline in the Metro Manila streets and this could be done through the strict implementation of city and municipal ordinances,” the general said.

As a result of the ordinances’ implementation, 6,940 violators were apprehended within a 24-hour period.

Among the violators, 2,208 were ordered to pay a total of P1,571,645 in penalties while 4,732 persons were issued warnings and reminded of their responsibility to comply with laws.

These violations included acts such as drinking in public places or streets, smoking in public places, roaming half-naked in public, minors violating curfew hours and other ordinances.

The NCRPO is also going after violators of the ‘videoke hours’ or people who continue to play loud videoke music past the 10:00 p.m. deadline.

Brig. Gen. Aberin reiterated the importance of these ordinances in fostering a safer and more disciplined community.

The crackdown on all violators of city and municipal ordinances was first launched during the term of former PNP chiefs Gen. Oscar Albayalde and Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.

The new NCRPO chief said that the crackdown goes vis-à-vis with their intensified anti-criminality operations in Metro Manila focusing on the reduction of illegal drugs, loose firearms and criminal gangs that pose a threat to the public.

“I am reminding my men that our operational thrust is the active presence and aggressive deployment of our policemen on the streets that must be seen and felt by the community,” Brig. Gen. Aberin said.

The official said that he has also ordered his men to intensify the Oplan Sita, Oplan Bulabog, Oplan Bakal and other anti-criminality operations in their areas.

Brig. Gen. Aberin said he wants all his district personnel to closely coordinate with local barangay officials in enforcing the city and municipal ordinances to ensure peaceful and much safer communities for all.
