METROPOLITAN Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos said the Metro Manila Council accepts and defers to the wisdom of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases in placing the National Capital Region (NCR) on modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from August 21 to 31.

Abalos said that even prior to the announcement, local government units (LGU) in Metro Manila have been imposing granular lockdowns in their respective jurisdictions and with the MECQ classification in effect, lockdowns will be intensified with the LGUs identifying areas where there are spikes in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

LGUs shall also double-up their mass testing, immediate isolation and contact tracing to control further the transmission of COVID-19 cases.

On the curfew and prohibition of outdoor exercises, the MMDA chief said the imposition of unified curfew hours from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. across the cities and municipality of NCR shall remain in effect until further notice.

Meanwhile, the resolution prohibiting Metro Manila residents from conducting their exercises outdoor which took effect last August 9 lapsed on August 20 as specified in the resolution, thereby allowing outdoor exercises in NCR starting August 21, from 6 to 9 a.m. only.
