Preliminary findings of the autopsy conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the remains of dismissed Police Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca showed that the latter died of cardiac arrest.

“The NBI report indicates that Nuezca succumbed to cardiac arrest. Laboratory and histophatology examinations are underway to determine the specific cause of his death,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said.

Nuezca was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m. on November 30, 2021. He was brought unconscious to the New Bilibid Prison hospital in Muntinlupa by his cell mates after he collapsed to the floor.

He was the off-duty cop who was caught on video shooting to death a mother and son over an altercation in Tarlac province last December 2020.

The former Parañaque City cop was convicted by the Paniqui, Tarlac regional trial court of two counts of murder over the deaths of 52-year-old Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony Gregorio, 25, in Purok 2, Bgy. Cabayaoasan, Tarlac.

The court also ordered him to pay the heirs of the victims P952,560 in damages.

The incident stemmed over an altercation involving homemade PVC canon “boga.”

Nuezca fled after shooting the victims, but surrendered to the Rosales Pangasinan Municipal Police Station hours later. He also turned over his service pistol that was used during the crime.

Nuezca and the Gregorios are residents of Purok 2 in Bgy. Cabayaoasan in Paniqui town.

The two families were allegedly involved in a property right-of-way dispute, but the shooting incident stemmed from the firing of a PVC cannon or “boga” by the Gregorios.

The shooting incident was caught on camera and the video became viral on social media.
