Navotas Greenzone Park unveiled
NAVOTAS City Mayor John Rey Tiangco and Congressman Toby Tiangco, along with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando Artes, recently led the inauguration and blessing of Navotas Greenzone Park.
The 3,500 square meter park was turned over along R-10 Road in Barangay Bangkulasi-North Bay Boulevard North (NBBN) that features plant boxes, paved pathways, landscaping, bollards, lamp posts, and an area where families can bond to eat, talk, and relax as part of the MMDA’s “Adopt-a-Park” project.
“Every year, the agency will set aside funds to support the development of parks for each LGU (local government unit),” Artes said and added that he discussed the idea of developing more open areas to Mayor Tiangco and the latter proposed to develop the open area in Bgy. Bangkulasi into a park for people to enjoy.
The Greenzone Park used to be an abandoned area where residents threw their garbage, and the area was used as a chicken den.
Tiangco also proposed to Artes to help them install free wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) in the area for residents to enjoy.
Mayor Tiangco and his older brother Congressman Toby Tiangco expressed their gratitude to the MMDA and appealed to the residents of Navotas to take care of the park and maintain its cleanliness.
Under the Adopt-A-Park project, which started last year and was the brainchild of former MMDA Chairman and now Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr., the LGU shall propose the location, design, and cost estimate, while the MMDA sets the criteria for site selection, provides funding, and implements the construction of the project.
