THE National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) will be holding seminars for crime prevention and training on self-defense techniques for barangay tanods or the so-called force multipliers as part of the 2023 National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW).

NAPOLCOM Commissioner Edilberto DC Leonardo delivered the keynote message and the declaration of the 29th NCPW celebration with a theme “Addressing Crime and Advancing Crime Prevention at the Local, National, and Global Levels” at the PNP Multi-Purpose Hall in Camp Crame.

Apart from educating the barangay peace-keeping action teams (BPATs), the agency also lined up other programs such as “Training on Investigation and Prosecution of Illegal Drugs” for law enforcers and prosecutors and “Webinar on Online Financial Transactions and Avoiding Online Scams” for NAPOLCOM personnel.

Jumpstarted on September 4, the NCPW included in its week-long activities “Asia Crime Prevention Foundation-Crime Prevention Practitioners Association of the Philippines (ACPF-CPPAP) Webinar on Community Policing in Asia” and Crime Prevention Education (CPE).”

ACPF-CPPAP highlights the different approaches that fostered the development of community-oriented policing in different countries in Asia while CPE aims to promote collective citizen action and responsibility to fight crime, violence, and illicit drug use.

A simultaneous blowing of whistles signaled the start of the seven-day observance wherein participants from partner agencies and stakeholders underwent skills training for community protection like modern arnis demonstration and arnis basic skills stances and striking techniques.

The observance of the NCPW is in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 461, which declared the first week of September of every year as National Crime Prevention Week under the auspices of the NAPOLCOM to which all departments and agencies of the government are enjoined to participate and support the programs and activities of the NCPW.
