Murder suspect falls in Taguig City

THE suspect in the brutal killing of a 38-year-old vendor happened last May 2, 2022, captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera fell into the hands of authorities during the anti-criminality operation in Taguig City.

Edwin Molato, 37, vendor and resident of Ballecer St. Bgy. South Signal Village was positively identified by a 30-year-old tricycle driver as the one responsible for murdering Gil Cahil, resident of Caramay St. Bgy. Katuparan, last May 2 at around 2:00 a.m. along Visayas St., Bgy. South Signal.

Report reaching the office of Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Jimili Macaraeg showed that while the victim and the witness were having pre-dawn snacks along Visayas Street, the suspect, who was seen on CCTV riding a bicycle, shot Cahil four times in the back of his body killing him instantly.

Nine days after the killing, Taguig Police Intelligence Section, led by P/Lt. Darwin Salvador, under the direct supervision of city police chief P/Col. Robert Baesa, conducted an anti-criminality operation at around 8:30 p.m. May 11, 2022, along Callao St. Bgy. South Signal following a series of complaints about rampant criminal activities in the area.

During the operation, policemen chanced upon Molato with a caliber .38 revolver tucked in his waist, prompting them to accost him and place him under arrest after he failed to present a gun license and permit to carry firearms outside his residence.

After he was presented for inquest proceedings on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and violation of the Omnibus Election Code, the tricycle driver, who witnessed the killing of Cahil, went on Thursday evening to the Taguig Police Station and positively identified him as the lone gunman who killed the victim in front of him.
