JAEN, Nueva Ecija – Jaen Vice Mayor Atty. Sylvester C. Austria has received a book donation worth P1.35-million from Rex Bookstore Inc. for the soon-to-be-inaugurated memorial library named after his father, the late three-term Mayor Santiago “Santy” R. Austria or MSRA Memorial Library.

The vice mayor said the book donation came from Atty. Dominador “Jimmy” Buhain, chairman and president of the Rex Group of Companies and president of the San Beda University Alumni Association.

It consists of 2,100 assorted books worth P1.35-million, which could be used by students from the San Josef Elementary School and nearby schools, said Austria, an alumnus of SBU, who finished the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Laws degrees in the university.

The vice mayor, who facilitated the book project, thanked Atty. Buhain, Rex Bookstore Inc., and the SBUAA after he and Mayor Sylvia C. Austria formally received the donations here on Wednesday.

Earlier, Vice Mayor Austria also received a donation from the Order of St. Benedict and the San Beda University (SBU), headed by its Rector-President Rev. Fr. Aloysius A. Maranan; Vice President for Administration Rev. Fr. Placid B. Acta, and VP for Finance Rev. Fr. Rembert C. Tumbali.

He said the SBU, through its “Community Engagement Center”, donated books, bookshelves, tables, and chairs for the proposed MSRA Memorial Library here.

These donations came following commemorating the sixth death anniversary of the town’s first and only three-termer mayor, Santy Austria, who passed away on Sept. 20, 2016.
