THE wife of presidential candidate Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson has been keeping a low-profile life by choice, but she remains active in supporting his lifelong public service endeavors, especially now that he is one election away from securing the highest elective position in the national government.

Mrs. Alice de Perio-Lacson has been running a different campaign of her own on behalf of her husband, choosing to visit public markets, roadside shops, busy streets and other places frequented by ordinary Filipinos.

Together with the group called ‘Ping Beneath the WINGS (Women’s Initiative for Nation’s Good Service), Mrs. Lacson is quietly helping her husband convince as many voters as they can to join their political cause and become agents of change, who will protect our nation against social ills.

‘Ping Beneath the WINGS’ is a civil society organization created and run by women that has been actively supporting the presidential bid of Lacson since last year. Mrs. Lacson became the de facto leader of the group during the official campaign period.

Mrs. Lacson and her associates began their on-the-ground campaign activities last March. According to one member of the group, they have already toured the provinces of CALABARZON to campaign for Lacson and his running mate Senate President Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III.

Some of the members of the organization have also been to Mindanao, particularly in Davao City, and held palengke tours in the area to distribute ‘aprons’ as well as deliver the messages and advocacies of Lacson on health, the youth, and public safety.

‘Ping Beneath the WINGS’ is known for distributing Lacson-Sotto ‘aprons’ as a special campaign giveaway to the citizens they encounter. They even gave the word ‘apron’ a different meaning to symbolize what people can expect from Lacson once he is elected as the 17th president.

According to the group, Lacson is ‘A leader who will Protect, Respect, provide Opportunities and hope to those seeking positive changes in their Nation.’ They said people really loved the ‘aprons’ and have been appreciative of Mrs. Lacson who engages them in light conversations during her visits.

In a video message uploaded on their Facebook page last April 10, Mrs. Lacson ensured that just like an apron, her husband will protect not only the women but every citizen from all walks of life whether they are in the streets, the school, at their homes or anywhere under his leadership.

“Sumisimbolo ito ng proteksyon ng isang lider laban sa katiwalian, laban sa pagnanakaw, laban sa pagpapahirap sa bansa. Protektado tayo ng KakamPing tunay,” Mrs. Lacson said.

In the remaining days of the official campaign period, Mrs. Lacson and ‘Ping Beneath the WINGS’ plan to reach out to the street sweepers and the farmers to raise awareness on the political platforms of Lacson towards the establishment of an orderly, sensible and clean government.
