THE Manila Police District (MPD) headed by Brigadier General Leo M. Francisco is investigating claims that supporters of the Lacson-Sotto tandem in May 2022 were allegedly harassed by some MPD personnel.

According to Philippine National Police spokesperson, Colonel Roderick Augustus B. Alba, the MPD director has ordered all his station commanders to check if the alleged harassment took place in their jurisdiction because those who made the claim failed to cite where in in Manila did the purported incident took place.

“The MPD has given the assurance that as soon as they are done with the investigation, they will submit a full report on this matter, Alba said in relating the developments in the case of the supporters of former PNP chief-turned Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ M. Lacson and Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III. The two are running for president and vice-president in next year’s polls.

“If during the course of investigation, it will be found out that a violation was committed by some personnel, they will be held liable and accountable for their actions,” he added.

PNP chief, General Dionardo B. Carlos on Monday assured the public that they will remain apolitical and won’t allow any police personnel to be used in partisan politicking activities.

The PNP maintains its apolitical stance and shall never allow its personnel to be used or abused in political agenda, said the 27th PNP chief.

Gen. Carlos also said that police officers and men with relatives running for different elective seats in the 2022 election will be removed to prevent suspicions they may favor their relatives.
