MisOr cop chief axed for terrorizing public
THE chief of the Tagoloan municipal police station in Misamis Oriental, Capt. Enrique Dungog, was axed from his post after residents went into panic when he brandished his gun at the town plaza Friday while reportedly drunk.
Police Regional Office 10 director Brigadier General Ricardo G. Layug Jr. said Dungog will be facing criminal and administrative charges for grave misconduct and could be dismissed from the service.
A viral video posted by a concerned citizen showed an alleged drunken Dungog going wild while carrying his service gun around the Tagoloan town plaza causing the people to be alarmed.
Two police non-commissioned officers who were with Dungog are also being investigated for committing the same offense.
Following the incident, Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office director Colonel Cholijun P. Caduyac ordered the immediate relief of Dungog.
Capt. Rodel Labadan was designated as officer-in-charge of the police station.
“The Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office strongly condemns the wrongdoing of our men. We guarantee that there will be no whitewash in the investigation and any infractions and misconduct perpetrated by our policemen will be dealt with accordingly and will never be tolerated,” he said.
The MOPPO Provincial Investigation and Detection Management was tasked to conduct a thorough probe into the incident as Layug said the relief of the three policemen was made to prevent them from influencing the outcome of the probe.
The Northern Mindanao police director likewise called on all concerned people to file a formal complaint against the accused.
He said that complainants may go directly to his office or the MOPPO headquarters to submit their affidavits.
Layug ensured that the complainants will be given utmost protection amid their ongoing stepped-up internal cleansing program in the region aimed at ferreting out misfits and scalawags in the police service.
