POLICE on Thursday reported a young girl had died after being hit by a Toyota Innova van while crossing the street in Barangay Calicanto, Batangas City.

Police Corporal Labajo, a duty radio operator of Batangas City Police, received a telephone call from a concerned citizen at 7:30 p.m. informing that there was a road incident that transpired at Bgy. Calicanto.

Upon receipt of said information, P/SSgt. Joseph Sulit, duty traffic investigator of Bolbok PCP (Police Community Precinct), and Pat. Kevin Carl Del Mundo responded.

Based on the initial investigation, at about 7:10 p.m. on December 15, the minor girl was seen crossing the National road of Bgy. Calicanto was hit by the front portion of the Toyota Innova van owned and driven by a 69-year-old musician and a resident of Bgy. 11, Batangas City which was then traveling on the said road heading to Batangas City proper.

Further, the girl sustained severe injuries and was brought to Batangas Medical Center by the responding Batangas Red Cross team but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The suspect driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in death, a police investigator said.
