Minor, elderly pal arrested in Baguio City drug bust
PHILIPPINE National Police Drug Enforcement Group director Brig. Gen. Eleazar P. Matta yesterday announced the arrest of a 49-year-old man and his 15-year old accomplice in an anti-narcotics operation in Baguio City which resulted in the seizure of two kilograms of Kush, a “high-grade “marijuana derivative worth at least P3 million.
In a report to PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, the official said that the duo was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Bgy. Legarda-Burnham-Kisad in Baguio City around 1:25 p.m. Saturday.
Undercover officers from the PDEG Special Operations Unit Cordillera Administrative Region, with the support of the Baguio City Police Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, conducted the successful sting.
Matta said that the two have been identified as “high-value individuals” from Bakun, Benguet and have been under surveillance for their involvement in large-scale trafficking of Kush and marijuana bricks from Benguet to Baguio City and Metro Manila.
The teenager was placed under the custody of the Baguio City Social Welfare and Development while the other suspect is now being held at the PDEG SOU-CAR lock-up facility.
The two will be facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Matta said tthe recovered pieces of drug evidence were submitted to the Cordillera Regional Forensic Unit for laboratory examination and safekeeping.
