A TOTAL of 312 wanted persons in the five Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) provinces have been sent to jail by operatives of the Police Regional Office 4-B (PRO4-B) from January 1 until last Thursday as a result of their continuing manhunt operations versus lawbreakers in the region, PRO4-B director, Brigadier General Sydney S. Hernia told the Journal Group on Saturday.

In a report to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Dionardo B. Carlos, the PRO4-B director said that 82 of the captured suspects were among the region’s “Most Wanted Persons” (MWPs) as shown by records from their Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System or CIRAS.

The arrested suspects include 70 men tagged as MWPs in the region and facing charges ranging from rape, murder, and homicide and violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Brig. Gen. Hernia said that latest to be placed in jail after more than 9 years in hiding was Dennis Capunong, one of the region’s most wanted rape suspects who was arrested during a manhunt operation in Brooke’s Point in Palawan.

The official said that Capunong is the subject of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for statutory rape issued by the Puerto Princesa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Br. 47 on December 12, 2012.

According to Hernia, the suspect was tracked down in his hiding place in Bgy. Pangobilian in Brooke’s Point last Thursday afternoon by PRO4-B operatives following information provided by some concerned citizens.

Brig. Gen. Hernia commended the members of the Brooke’s Point Municipal Police Station, the Rizal MPS, the 1st Palawan Provincial Police Office, and the Mimaropa Regional Intelligence Unit for capturing another most wanted person in the region.

The 2nd was identified as Jupiter Estrada, the subject of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for 3 counts of rape in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law.

Tagged as the no. 1 MWP in Oriental Mindoro, the suspect was caught in his hiding place in Bgy. Dangay in Roxas municipality last Friday by combined agents from the Roxas Municipal Police Station, the Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office, and the PNP Special Action Force (SAF).

The suspect is now being held at the Roxas District Jail being run by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Brig. Gen. Hernia was congratulated by Gen. Carlos for ensuring that the provinces of Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan won’t be a safe place to hide for fugitives from the law.

Gen. Carlos also called on other fugitives from the law to voluntarily surrender to the police or face the consequences of their acts.

“You are fugitives from justice now but the long arm of the law will catch up with you to bring you before the bar of justice. The PNP remains relentless and determined to put all of you behind bars,” the PNP chief said.
