PAMPANGA Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” M. Arroyo will not run for any position in next year’s presidential polls and instead decided to campaign for the victory of his mother, former President and Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo whom he convinced to return to public service as representative of the 2nd District of Pampanga.

Interviewed by ABS-CBN’s RG Cruz, Mikey said the former President will run for a congressional seat anew.

Mrs. Arroyo served for three terms or from 15th, 16th, and 17th Congress (2010-2019) under the Aquino and Duterte governments.

According to Mikey, Mrs. Arroyo has accepted a certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) that the Lakas-Christian Muslim democrats (CMD) issued for her to run in the 2nd District of Pampanga, which he represents now. Mrs. Arroyo is the Lakas-CMD President Emeritus.

“She accepted the CONA, that means it’s a go right,” said Mikey, the Lakas-CMD’s Executive Vice President. The congressman clarified that there were no talks that her mother will run for the speakership of the 19th Congress, which is believed being eyed again by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco who declared his intention to seek reelection.

“No, that is not (seeking speakership) in the conversation, that is not in the conversation,” Mikey clarified.

Mikey also said it was him who convinced the former President to return to public service as the representative of the 2nd District of Pampanga.

“I won’t run for any position. I will devote my time to be her campaign manager,” Mikey said.
