Mga Pinoy hostage ng Houthi may malaria na
NAGKAKASAKIT na ng malaria ang mga Filipino seafarers na bihag ng grupong Houthi sa Red Sea.
Ayon kay Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil, nakipag-ugnayan na ang pamahalaan ng Pilipinas sa Sana’a government sa Yemen para bigyan ng medical assistance ang mga Filipino crew members ng MV Galaxy leader.
Ayon kay Garafil, tinatrabaho na rin ng pamahalaan ang pagpapalaya sa mga Filipino seafarers para sa humanitarian reasons.
“According to a DFA memorandum for the President dated July 30, Honorary Consul to Yemen Mohammad Saleh Al-Jamal confirmed that several Filipino crew members were experiencing significant health issues as they show malaria symptoms,” pahayag ni Garafil.
“Al-Jamal sought the assistance from Sana’a authorities for the release of the Filipino crew members, citing humanitarian reasons because of their declining health condition,” dagdag ni Garafil.
Batid na aniya ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang lagay ng mga Filipino seafarers.
“In response, Sana’a authorities affirmed the provision of assistance by informing concerned officials in the Sana’a government and by sending specialized doctors to the vessel to carry out necessary medical procedures,” saad naman ng DFA sa memo na ipinaabot kay Pangulong Marcos.
Ang Sana’a ang may awtoridad sa Houthis ay ang capital at pinakamalaking siyudad sa Yemen.
“However, with regard to the release of the Filipino crew members, the Sana’a government responded that the case depends on external decisions; hence, negotiations and discussions are plausible for their fate and possible release. The Sana’a government will discuss the issue and the case with the specialists and the Presidency of the Yemeni Republic under the Houthi government.”
Hinihintay na ngayon ng Office of the Undersecretary for Migration Affairs ng DFA ang ulat ni Al-Jamal matapos ang follow-up meeting sa pagitan ng Ambassador Ahmed Omar at representatives ng Yemeni Foreign Ministry sa Sana’a.
Una nang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na ligtas ang mga Filipino seafarers sa pag-atake ng Israel sa port ng Hodeidah, Yemen.
