A 42-year-old messenger was shot dead in front of his house by a lone gunman who allegedly bore a grudge against him Thursday evening in Malabon City.

The murder of Jayson Reyes was witnessed by his son Marvin, 23, who immediately rushed him to Tondo Medical Center where he was declared dead upon arrival by his attending physician.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Albert Barot said the victim was sitting in front of his house at Block 2, Lot 63, Phase 2, Area 3 Bgy. Longos at around 8:20 p.m. when the suspect, identified only as alias ‘Popoy Espos,’ approached him from behind and shot him twice in the right temple.

After the killing, the suspect was seen by the victim’s son fleeing towards an unknown direction in the company of an unidentified man who allegedly served as lookout.

Responding elements of the Scene of the Crime Operation recovered from the crime scene two empty shells for an unknown caliber of firearm which will be submitted to the Northern Police District Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.

Barot said they are still conducting a follow-up operation for possible arrest of the suspects while investigation is ongoing to determine if the drug transaction that went sour was the reason behind the murder.
