THE Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital located at the Burnham Green area in Luneta Park began its full operations yesterday.

According to Mayor Isko Moreno, an initial 73 patients will be accommodated in the 344-bed hospital.

These patients, the mayor said, will come from the six city-owned hospitals and are COVID patients classified as mild to moderate cases.

Moreno said the purpose of this is to declog the regular city-run hospitals of COVID cases so they can focus better on serious or critical ones.

The mayor also said with mild to moderate cases now out of the regular hospitals, the doctors, nurses and personnel there can now have more time and space attending to residents afflicted with other sicknesses.

Moreno noted that based on his readings, COVID is only fourth in the list of illnesses that have been claiming lives.

With the field hospital now operational under the directorship of Dr. Arlene Dominguez., Moreno reiterated his appeal for the doctors, nurses and allied workers who will be working there to make sure that they always give service with a smile, no matter how tired they may be.

He stressed that a sick person is understandably irritable and sometimes even unreasonable and that it is incumbent upon those attending to the sick to exercise utmost patience.

A simple smile, Moreno said, can help pacify a patient’s worries and reassures him or her that they will be helped.
