Mayor’s league fetes Davao City police chief

DAVAO City Police Office chief Col. Hansel B. Marantan has been cited by the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) headed by La Paz, Abra Mayor JB Bernos for his outstanding contribution to the Philippine National Police’s effort to stem criminality and solve crimes.

During their recent convention, the LMP officially recognized Marantan for his dedication, exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order in our communities.

“His efforts in fostering a safe and secure environment align with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines’ mandate of promoting good governance, transparency, and peace and order across the Philippines,” the LMP said.

According to Bernos, the LMP is really grateful to Marantan for his invaluable support and commendable performance as a police officer.

The award was given during the LMP’s Mindanao Island Cluster Conference 2024 held in Cebu City.

The LMP event had the theme “Sustainable Development: Creating Smart Communities Through Localization of the SDGs by Municipal Governments.” SDG refers to Sustainable Development Goals by the municipal mayors nationwide.

A member of PNP Academy “Kabalikat” Class of 1998 who was designated as the new Davao City police chief by the PNP leadership last month, Marantan has been given a chance by Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte to prove his worth in ensuring to keep peace and security in the city.

Marantan has also appealed to Davao City residents to give him more time before judging his performance, particularly in the fight against all forms of criminality, and terror in the city.

The police official gave a peace and order presentation during the LMP event, which was graced by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Sen. Bong Go, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Rep. Rodante Marcoleta.

Other delegates in the event were Kapalang, Davao del Norte Mayor Maria Theresa Timbol, Labason, Zamboanga del Norte Mayor Jelster Quimbo, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur Mayor Glaiza Llanete, Daanbantayan, Cebu Mayor Sun Shimura; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental Mayor Jason John Joyce; and Binidayan, Lanao del Sur Mayor Sodais Dimaporo.
