A CANDIDATE for mayor and his four companions on Wednesday were arrested for alleged possession of marijuana in Sadanga, Mountain Province.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said nabbed were Sonny Kalaw, a 36-year-old former policeman who is a candidate for mayor of Sabangan, Mountain Province; Jonathan Abella, 37; Jeric Sansano, 30; Samson Damaso, 28, and a 17-year-old male.
Kalaw and his companions were traveling on a van when intercepted at a checkpoint in Oowayen, in Poblacion, Sadanga.
Seized from the van were 19 bricks of dried marijuana leaves worth P2.28 million and ammunition for a cal. 9mm gun.
The suspects and the confiscated evidence were brought to the Sadanga Municipal Police Station while the minor was turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
In another operation, joint PDEA agents and police operatives arrested on the same day three men allegedly transporting marijuana in a car at Sitio Ampawilen in Bgy. Poblacion.
Nabbed were Jorge Eyawon, 34; Dario Diway, 23; and Jake Caesar Linchangan, 19, all of Tabuk City, Kalinga.
The three were arrested after a total of 148 bricks and six tubes of dried marijuana leaves worth P18.48 million were confiscated from them.
PDEA-Cordillera said all eight arrested persons are facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law.
