NAVOTAS City Mayor John Rey Tiangco suspended afternoon classes on all levels, public and private, on Thursday, due to heavy rains brought by the northeast monsoon.

Mayor Tiangco canceled all afternoon classes upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) following a yellow warning issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) that will bring heavy rains and possible flooding.

The mayor also instructed personnel of CDRRMO to conduct a roving operation, particularly in low-lying areas along the coast of Manila Bay and riverways, and check the condition of residents living in the area.

Meanwhile, the Manila City Public Information Office (PIO) informed residents that a post from a certain account with a grabbed photo from a previous announcement regarding class suspension that went trending online was “fake news.”

PIO head Atty. Princess Abante said that no announcement has been made by the City Government of Manila regarding the suspension of classes and work on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

“The City of Manila would like to remind the public that all official announcements shall be made through the Manila Public Information Office Facebook Page and through Mayor Dra. Honey Lacuna Facebook page,” said Atty. Abante.
