Mayor orders probe into beach party in Lapu-Lapu City

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu Mayor Mayor Junard Ahong Chan has ordered an investigation into a beach party at a resort in the city for possible violation of the health protocols.

The party at the Karancho Beach Resort in Bgy. Maribago in Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday, which was attended by more than 100 people, coincided with the city festival.

Chan directed the police to investigate if the beach partygoers breached the health protocols.

The mayor expressed concern about the possibility of COVID-19 spike if the people become complacent.

City crisis manager Nagiel Banacia advised those who attended the beach party to call the COVID-19 hotline of Lapu-Lapu City at 0999-972-1111 if they feel any symptoms of the disease.

Event manager Dino Amores said they followed health protocols, including requiring attendees to wear face mask.

Amores also said the party was held in an open area and the guests were vaccinated.

In Tulunan, Cotabato, authorities are also investigating a violation of the health protocols of young people celebrating the 60th founding anniversary of the town.

The young people were caught on video dancing and partying without face masks and social distancing during the event.
