MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) Director Asuncion “Re” Fugoso led the distribution of cash assistance to 935 public school students in the City of Manila Tuesday afternoon at the San Andres Sports Complex.

Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said this was the second batch of distribution of cash assistance to public school students in the city under the Educational Assistance Program (EAP) in coordination with the MDSW.

Director Re Fugoso said that last year, around 983 students from different public schools, benefitted from the first batch of the distribution of cash assistance which was also held at the San Andres Sports Complex.

“Napakasuwerte po kayo ngayong hapon na ito dahil nandidito po ang inyong pamahalaan upang makatulong sa inyong mga anak at mga apo Ito po ay isang tulong na ibibigay ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Maynila sa bawa;t isang batang Maynila para sa kanilang pag-aaral,” Mayor Honey said in her opening speech.

Students from different public schools in Manila from district 1 to district 6, including those from Baseco, received P5,000 cash which can help to augment their educational expenses.

“Ito po ay aming paraan para kahit papaano maibsan po ang inyong mga pangangailangan sa araw-araw na mga gawain ng inyong mga anak at apo sa loob ng kanilang paaralan. Bagama’t hindi po ito kalakihan, alam po namin na kahit papaano, makakatulong pa po ito para sa inyo,” the mayor said.

The city chief executive also reminded parents of to continue guiding their children in their studies and used the cash assistance for their educational expenses only. She said EAP is not intended to pay their loan or electricity and water bills.
