POLICE Regional Office 8 (PRO8) Director Brigadier General Bernard M. Banac on Tuesday said they recorded “generally peaceful” conduct of national and local elections in Eastern Visayas, a Marcos-Romualdez bailiwick, which gave a landslide victory to presumptive president, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (BBM) and the rest the UniTeam.

“Since the opening of the casting of votes at 6:00 a.m. until its closing at 7:00 p.m., no untoward incidents in polling centers have been recorded. There was also no failure of election in any province in the region,” said the PRO8 director.

Apart from Marcos Jr., his running mate, Davao City Mayor, and presidential daughter Sara Duterte won the vice-presidential race in Eastern Visayas.

Leyte 2nd District Representative Ferdinand Martin T. Romualdez and his cousin, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez were also reelected.

The only problem encountered is the presence of a few vote-counting machines or VCMs, which malfunctioned in some areas in the region on “E-Day” (election day) itself, said the official.

Brig. Gen. Banac said the maximum presence of the majority of PRO8 personnel in all areas of engagement, especially in school premises where the polling precincts are located, greatly contributed to the peaceful situation in the region.

“Ultimately, I thank the Lord for guiding us throughout the election process. I fervently pray that this poll will end peacefully. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our counterparts in the government and stakeholders who [have] supported us all the way since the start of the election period. To our brave men and women in our ranks, my salute to each one of you for rendering your election duties snappily,” Brig. Gen. Banac said.

The official said they will remain steadfast in providing security cover for the canvassing of official votes until the proclamation of winners. By Alfred Dalizon
