ANOTHER survey showed the high trust and performance ratings of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and the entire House of Representatives.

With much elation, Romualdez vowed to redouble their efforts at addressing the most pressing concerns of the people.

Based on the latest Tugon ng Masa First Quarter survey by Octa Research, Romualdez got a 55 percent trust rating.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Filipino people for their continued support and trust in my leadership,” Speaker Romualdez said.

“This is not just a personal achievement but also a tacit recognition of the tireless efforts of the entire House and the dedication of my fellow lawmakers to pass laws and policies that benefit our country and our people,” he added.

Romualdez said that while the House has delivered on its commitment to pass laws advancing the 8-point socioeconomic agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., he and the entire chamber will not rest on their laurels.

“I would like to assure the public that under my leadership, we will redouble our efforts to prioritize the needs and concerns of the Filipino people. We will press on for the timely passage of laws for progress and development and those meant to address the serious challenges that our nation face,” Romualdez stressed.

The same survey said that 83 percent of adult Filipinos trust President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.,; Vice President Sara Duterte (87 percent) Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri (50 percent); and Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo (39 percent).

The same survey shows that 80% of adult Filipinos are satisfied with the performance of Pres. Marcos, 84 percent for VP Duterte, 53 percent for SP Zubiri, 59 percent for Speaker Romualdez, and 41 percent for CJ Gesmundo.

Among the officials covered by the survey, Romualdez scored the biggest increase in trust rating, or +17 percent compared to the TNM October 2022 survey. He also earned the highest gain in performance rating, or +15 percent, for the two survey periods.

The TNM national survey is an independent and non-commissioned poll conducted regularly by Octa Research. The Q1 2023 survey was conducted from March 24-28, 2023 based on interviews with 1,200 male and female respondents aged 18 years old and above from Class AB, C, D, and E.

Meanwhile, House leaders expressed gratitude to the Filipinos who have shown their support to the House of Representatives.

Deputy Speaker and Pampanga Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. said that the people, by and large, recognize and appreciate the “record accomplishments of the House of Representatives under the stewardship of Speaker Martin Romualdez.”

Gonzales said this is the reason behind the high public approval ratings of the Speaker, besides his strong but compassionate leadership.

He said the public is also cognizant of the “unconditional support” the Speaker has committed to the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“We in the House have approved the majority of the administration’s priority measures, starting with the 2023 national budget. The House is the chamber that principally allocates the budget, and we hope that the people feel the impact and benefits of projects, programs and activities we fund in the national spending program,” he stressed.

Gonzales, who has proposed certain amendments to the Constitution’s “restrictive” economic provisions, added that he believes the Speaker’s high approval marks also reflect a large public support for the House constitutional reform initiative.

“I think there is sizable public backing for our initiative that is focused on changing the language of the economic provisions so there would be flexibility in attracting more foreign capital that would create more income and job opportunities for our people,” he said.

For his part, Majority Leader and Zamboanga City Rep. Jose Manuel “Manix” Dalipe said the Congress will continue to work for the immediate passage of pending bills particularly the priority measures of the Marcos administration.

Dalipe was elated over the new survey showing high trust and performance ratings of the top government officials including Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

“We are proud to have a leader like Speaker Martin. His leadership has restored faith that the House of Representatives truly reflects the will of the people and acts in the best interest of the nation,” Dalipe said.

Dalipe attributed the significant increase in Speaker Romualdez’s trust and approval ratings to the active role that he encouraged the House to perform to address the most pressing concerns of Filipino families.

“The House under Speaker Romualdez has turned activist. We no longer limit our job to pure legislation, having been instructed by the Speaker to exercise our congressional oversight powers to improve the living condition of our people,” the Majority Leader pointed out.

“The Speaker was hands-on in solving problems of ordinary citizens, using the full might of congressional oversight to act on wide-ranging issues. From bringing down the price of onion to stopping thefts at the airports, and restoring peace and order in the streets,” Dalipe added.

Octa Research noted that Romualdez’s “approval for (his) performance has tremendously increased in all geographical areas and socio-economic classes.”
