AS expected, Deputy Speaker and re-electionist Valenzuela City 2nd Dist. Rep. Eric Martinez easily trounced his opponent after garnering a huge margin of votes, as the City Board of Canvassers winds up its work just several hours after the conduct of the May 2022 national and local elections.

Base on the official tally, Martinez, who is seeking for his third and final term, got an overwelming 132,241 votes, while his lone opponent, Magtanggol Gunigundo, only managed to obtain 50,599 votes.

As members of the Valenzuela City Official Board of Canvassers managed to secure and counted all the election returns and finish its Certificate of Canvass, they officially proclaimed Martinez as the runaway winner for the position of the city’s second congressional district at around 4:00 in the morning of May 10 or just 9 hours after the polling precincts were close for registered voters to cast their votes.

Martinez upon receiving the official copy of the certificate of canvass expressed his wholehearted thanks and gratitude, first to the Lord God, then to the people of the second district of Valenzuela City and likewise on his local political partymates for his victory.

Martinez said that he truly feels great knowing how his constituents appreciated his efforts in making sure all his worthy projects and programs are implemented well and the landslide victory he got is the true testament of it.

“Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat. Makatitiyak kayo na ako ay patuloy na epektibong maglilingkod. Dahil nga ang inyong Congressman Eric Martinez ay ‘never stop’ sa public service. Muli, salamat sa Panginoon sa ibinigay Niya sa atin na tagumpay na ito… salamat sa inyo.” Martinez also stated.

Likewise, the high ranking House official credited his victory on the various support he got, most notably of them are the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s endorsement of Martinez reelection run, the backing of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), likewise being a staunt supporter of the Bongbong Marcos-Sara Duterte Unity tandem and his long time local political alliance with the Team Red of Gatchalian’s.

Aside from Martinez victory, the group of third-termer Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian, who ran unopposed for the first district congressional seat, also scored a great upset over their opponents.

Incumbent Valenzuela City 1st Dist. Rep. Wes Gatchalian, who will switch position with his younger brother Rex, and his runningmate, vice-mayoral bet Lorie Natividad-Borja took the swipe on their respective opponent, as their ticket for councilors, both on the city’s first and second district as well won convincingly, posting a 16-0 win for the Gatchalian’s Team Red.

Meanwhile, Martinez said that with the official proclamation already done, their group, Team Red, will buckle-up back to work, for many things still to be done specially as Covid-19 pandemic just lingering around. Martinez is set to lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion project of the Valenzuela City Hospital, that would pave the way in increasing its capacity to 500-beds. By RYAN PONCE PACPACO
