DEPUTY Speaker for Youth and Sports Development, Rep. Eric Martinez filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections-National Capital Region (Comelec-NCR) office in Manila, yesterday October 6, 2021, as he seeks reelection for the position of congressman of Valenzuela City’s 2nd District. He was accompanied by his wife, Dra. Katherine Martinez.

Deputy Speaker Martinez, a ranking leader of the ruling PDP-Laban party, who was the first and original incumbent public official in Metro Manila to pushed and actively campaigned for then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s presidential bid in 2016, marked his 10th time vying for an elective position; first as a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Kagawad of Brgy. Marulas (1992 to 1996), one-term Barangay Kagawad of Marulas (1997 to 2000), as two-term City Councilor of Valenzuela (2001 to 2007), three-term City Vice-Mayor (2007 to 2016), and two-term Congressman of 2nd Dist. Valenzuela City (2016 to present).

The result of the last May 13, 2019 National and Local elections showed Congressman Martinez the runaway winner, as he clobbered his lone opponent, Magtanggol Gunigundo, after garnering a total of 106,848 votes or 73.79% of the 149,603 valid ballots counted by the City Board of Canvassers, Comelec NCR-Third Dist.- City of Valenzuela.

As far as his plan for his third and last term as a member of the House of Representatives, Congressman Martinez vowed to continue his programs and projects anchored on his advocacy of providing better lives and opportunities for the people of Valenzuela City, specially the residents of the second district, by way of Valenzuelanos having greater access to quality health care services and educational programs, livelihood trainings, sports and wellness facilities and others.

In line with the Valenzuela city government, under the highly efficient and most admired brand of leadership of Mayor Rex Gatchalian, as well as the national government efforts to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congressman Martinez reiterated his resolved to initiate and support legislative measures that would fast-track the recovery of jobs and businesses, in an effort to propel back the country’s economy.
