FORMER PBA player James Martinez did it again.

Martinez of the  Chaophraya Thunders added another feather to his cap by winning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for Point Made in the Thailand Basketball League.

Martinez emerged as the top choice over Macky Acosta of Suphanburi Mammoth, Marvin Lee of Bangkok Tigers, and Pryimak Serhiii and  Supanat Thanmmakantipong of Dunkin Raptors.

Interestingly, the top three players  are all Filipinos.

The 37-year-old Martinez, who was selected by crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra during the PBA Draft in 2011, recorded  454 statistical points and averaged 25.0 points, 5.4 assists, 2.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 30.6 minutes per game while playing for the Thunders.

Martinez also averaged 36.6 points, 6.0 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 37.6 minutes per game while playing for the Phuket Waves, finishing with 32.4 points per game.

Acosta placed second with 360 points,  followed by Lee with 344.

Serhiii and Thammakntipong wound up with 312 and 304, respectively.

“Sobrang blessed na nakakuha ako ulit ng award. Last year MVP assists, ngayon naman MVP scoring. Siguro pinapakita ko lang na kung ano kailangan ng team yun yung ibibigay ko. In-accept ko yung role,” said Martinez, who also played for the University of East in the UAAP.

“Salamat sa management ng Phuket kay boss Amp at boss Birth , pati na sa teammate ko si Wowie Escosio. Lagi akong hinahanap sa laro. Nagpapasalamat din ako sa Chaopraya Thunder kay Boss BC kung di dahil sa kanila di ko makukuha itong award,” added Martinez, who rose to prominence during his playing days with the Powerade Tigers in the PBA from 2011-2012.

Martinez expressed his gratitude to everyone who has always supported and believed in him.

“Nagpapasalamat ako kina boss Jet Maronilla ng MC Sports, Dennis Chiang of DCG Steel, John Rosagas ng Uratex, Big Boy Lee ng IV Vitamin Bar, Three Points Sublimation, Sakura Lounge kay mam dahlia at mam Pinky, Drip and shots madam Cath, Sportsology boss Piere Lim, The sixth grind of boss Sam at Sprinto Shades ni Pawlo Misolas,”

Martinez also led in free throw percentage with 82.6% and ranked second in three-point shooting with 39.8%, making 49 three-pointers.
