AGENTS of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group securing the Marilaque Highway from reckless drivers on Saturday morning arrested a motorcycle rider who was found to be in possession of shabu and marijuana leaves after a brief chase, PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Eleazar P. Matta said yesterday.

The official said that the suspect was flagged down for driving without a crash helmet by members of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A securing the highway in Bgy. Inarawan, Antipolo City around 9 a.m. Saturday.

However, instead of yielding, the driver sped away, prompting HPG Riders to pursue him. When intercepted, the suspect failed to present any driver’s license.

When frisked, he was also found in possession of five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing dried marijuana leaves, a plastic sachet with suspected shabu, and a glass tube with suspected shabu residue.

The frisking of the suspect was done in the presence of local barangay officials.

The suspect was taken to the Antipolo City Police Station for filing of charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, driving without a license and violation of the Helmet Law.

Matta said the drug arrest was made amid their ongoing conduct of “Oplan: Sita” and stepped-up anti-carnapping effort in Marilaque Highway.

The PNP-HPG is getting support from the Rizal Police Provincial Office, the Land Transportation Office and the local government unit.

“This operation is a clear example of our commitment to public safety and the ongoing fight against illegal drugs. The HPG will continue to take decisive action against both traffic violations and criminal activity,” he said.
