Marcelino twins power Zamboanga over San Juan

ZAMBOANGA leaned on the heroics of the Marcelino twins to subdue San Juan, 95-89, in overtime on Monday and tally its 3rd straight victory in as many starts in the MPBL 4th Season at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino combined for 40 points, including 8 in the extra period as Zamboanga handed San Juan its second loss in 3 outings.

Jayvee fired a game-high 22 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, issued 6 assists and had 2 steals while Jaycee contributed 18 points and 2 rebounds for Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines of Coach Vic Ycasiano.

Jerald Bautista and Jhaymo Eguilos supported the Marcelinos with 17 and 13 points, respectively, as Zamboanga kept its poise after San Juan rallied to force the extension at 81-81.

The San Juan Knights got 22 points and 9 rebounds from Jammer Jamito, followed by Mon Abundo with 13, Justin Gutang 11, including a 2-handed slam in the fourth quarter, Ron Dennison 11 and Michael Calisaan 10.

Earlier, Pasig City dumped Pampanga, 93-71, to climb to 2-1.

Carlo Lastimosa and Jun Manzo presided over the Pasig Realtors’ offense with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

They were supported by Jason Melano with 14 points and Alvin Baetiong and Rey Peralta with 11 each.

The Realtors were so hot they led by as many as 28 points, 93-65, in exposing the weaknesses of the homegrown-laden Pampanga Giant Lanterns who fell to 1-2 despite the 14-point, 11-rebound effort of Warren Bonifacio and the 12-point output of Jayson Apolonio.
