PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has extended the term of Philippine National Police Chief Genral Rommel Francisco Marbil by four months, Malacanang announced.
A memorandum dated Feb. 4, 2025 states that the President approved the extension of Marbil’s government service beyond the compulsory retirement age of 56.
Marbil is set to retire on February 7, 2025.
The memorandum was addressed to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla.
Marbil, the 30th PNP chief, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Sambisig Class of 1991. He took command of the top police post on April 1, 2024.
Marbil previously headed the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership and served as the regional director of Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) and as the director of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
In a statement, the PNP chief thanked the President for his continued trust and confidence on him. Gen. Marbil also expressed his profound gratitude to President Marcos for the opportunity to continue leading the organization, further strengthening the PNP’s commitment to safeguarding the nation, particularly in ensuring the success of the upcoming 2025 elections.
“With this extension, I am deeply honored and grateful for the trust, confidence, and unwavering support of our President. I assure him, and the entire Filipino nation, that I will remain steadfast in upholding the PNP’s commitment to serve with integrity, professionalism, and dedication. This extension allows me to focus and work harder on our preparations for the 2025 national and local elections, ensuring that we deliver peaceful, credible, fair, and honest elections,” Gen. Marbil said.
Under his leadership, the PNP remains resolute in its mission to uphold public safety and security, ensuring an electoral process free from violence, intimidation, or fraud.
His administration will continue to prioritize proactive law enforcement, crime prevention, and enhanced community engagement to maintain peace and order nationwide, said PNP Public Information Office chief, Colonel Randulf T. Tuaño.
“The men and women of the PNP have expressed their full support for PGen Marbil’s extended tenure, reinforcing their collective commitment to the reforms and strategic goals he has set for the organization. This unity underscores the PNP’s dedication to its mandate of protecting and serving the Filipino people,” added the PNP-PIO chief.
Col. Tuaño said that moving forward, Gen. Marbil’s leadership will focus on maintaining high standards of service, advancing internal reforms, and strengthening the PNP’s capability to address evolving security challenges.
“His vision is clear—to lead a PNP that is strong, responsive, and steadfast in its duty to create a safer and more secure Philippines for all,” he added.
