THE city government of Manila will begin Tuesday the distribution of the monthly financial assistance to solo parents and persons with disability (PWDs) covering a period of six months.

Mayor Isko Moreno signed the payroll of the said beneficiaries aided by Re Fugoso, head of the city’s social welfare department.

Moreno said the budget allotted for the solo parents and PWDs is P3,000 each, covering the P500 monthly allowances from January to June, 2021.

According to Fugoso, there are 5,159 solo parents and 21,773 PWDs in the entire city of Manila.

She said the budget required for the solo parents reached P15.477 million and for PWDs, the total allocation is P 65.3 million.

Through the initiative of Moreno and the full support of the Manila City Council, the city government of Manila rolled out in 2019 a social amelioration package that grants monthly cash assistance to senior citizens, PWDs and solo parents, apart from students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and the Universidad de Manila.

These benefits are contained in Manila City Ordinances number 8564 and 8565 which were passed by the Manila City Council under Vice Mayor and presiding officer Honey Lacuna, Majority Floorleader Joel Chua and members of the majority bloc.

Said ordinances were passed on the initiative of Moreno as part of the local government’s social amelioration stimulus package for qualified and deserving Manilans.

Moreno then entered into an agreement with officials of PayMaya in an effort to provide ease and convenience on the part of the said beneficiaries, numbering at least 200,000 in all, when they are claiming their monetary assistance from the city. In the said agreement, the beneficiaries may draw their benefits at any ATM machine nearest to them anytime they want to or at their own convenience.
